  1. BIG Fan Fred since you won the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP in PV!
Look forward to watching you in the future!

  2. Big fan also, golf is just not the same without him.

  3. Sure miss watching you play on the PGA tour. Take care of that back and hopefully you’ll be back soon! Just not the same without Fred Couples! Hope to see you playing again soon!

  4. HUGE Fan of Fred always..Hope to see you playing real soon….

  5. Fred — have been a fan of yours since I saw you play at WDW in the 80s. Hope 2007 is a healing year and that you come back stronger than ever! You are missed.

  6. Can’t wait to see you play again- miss your easy style-a real gentleman — it is a pleasure to watch you.
What do you with your time off the golf course and what golf authors do you enjoy ?

  7. have been an avid fan of Fred ever since he came to Durham years ago with Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, Michelle McGann..All impressed me as ladies and gentlemen and their conduct since then has been what you would expect of professionals..Regardless of what happens in the future, I will always be a Fred Couples fan..I would rather pay 500 bucks to walk the course with him, than to get a free ride of some of these so called pros (prima donnas) Hurry back Fred and the best of luck in the future..

  8. Fred,
Just wanted to wish you well. Hope your back is getting better. I have lower back problems myself. Really miss that swing. Hope you will be back soon.

  9. Fred, Sorry to hear of your continuing back problems. Heard you were in Portland to see someone and visited Oswego Lake C.C.–my club. I know an “off the grid”, no pain method therapist with unusual knowledge, understanding and skills–beyond chiropractic, physical therapist, orthopedic–he’s currently in the Santa Fe area. He resolved my back issues and those of many friends including my son who broke his back skiing–the orthopods were useless. E-mail me so I can give you my phone # to talk to tell you more. I use Peter Jacobsen as a reference. Don Bies will remember me from years back. I was Bob McKendrick”s am partner for 25+ years. Would like to help. I guarantee my friend will be able to assess your problems and likely create solutions–for you–no cost to look and assess. Let me know. John Hedlund/Scotlund07

  10. Univ of Houston class of ‘84 alumni. kept up with Fred since those days. Golf on Sundays is not the same without Fred. You’re absolute #1 on my scorecard. Can sympathize with the back problems, mine acts up too. Take care of yourself and hope to see you on the course soon. Go COOGS!

  11. Hi Fred,
It’s been awhile since Letitia Ave hasn’t it. I still have fond memories of night stocking @ the Food Giant down below your house and your Mom calling the store at 3:00 am and asking us to please quit doing “Burnouts” in the parking lot so that you guys could sleep. TC and I always tried to blame it on somebody else but she could see the parking lot so she knew it was us, Sorry about that.
I’ve followed your career throughout the years but haven’t seen you since since the Fred Meyer Challenge in Portland about 20 years ago. If you’re ever in the Portland area and have a few minutes to spare I’d love to say hello.
I’d like to get hold of TC regarding upcoming FHS reunion so if you could ask him to please contact me that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Joe

  12. Fred, I’ve always been a fan for many years. I have to say that it sure is not the same when I turn on golf and your not playing. Hopefully your back will allow you to play more often in the near future. I’m also looking forward to watching you on the Champions Tour. I also want to mention that I hope all is well in your personal life.

Looking forward to seeing you in the Skins Game this year. Take care!

  13. I have always been a great fan of fred the boom, boom Couples. Can’t wait to see you back in competition on the PGA. I’ve also enjoyed watching your amazing golf swing. May you have a quick and healthy recovery. Ron

  14. Hi Fred, Been a big fan since I was a kid. I live in Ireland and had to stay up til midnight just to watch you swng. I am a classical musician, when i perfrom i think of your layed back approach to your shots and i breeze onto to the stage.
Does anyone know where I can get some DVDs of fred playing like the masters 92 or instruction dvds etc.
Hope to see you play again soon, thanks for making me love golf. Take good care of yourself

  15. Always been a big fan since the ‘84 Open Championship. You holed out for eagle on 18 on either Thursday or Friday, can’t remember which. But they interviewed you afterward and you explained that you and your caddie (not sure if it was joe at that time) disagreed on club selection. He thought it was a 9 and you thought it was an 8. Ultimately he talked you into hitting the 9. Pretty sweet shot. Not sure if you were the first to wear the sweater vest but certainly made it a lot more popular, in my opinion. all the best!

  16. Hey Fred, Just wanted to say that the Presidents Cup was missing the biggest name in the history of the game. The one and only Fred Couples, I couldn’t wait for you to arrive in Australia to see you play and you didn’t dissapoint, take care of your back and hope to see you down under once again… Big Fan…

  17. Still watch the 1992 Masters every year (actually more than once each year). I know it’s way back in the past, but that was one nice round of golf…as was the ‘96 Players.

  18. Fred,
I have been looking forward to this years Skins tournament since I heard on the Golf channel you would be playing.
I saw you win the Byron Nelson Tournament ( can’t recall the year? ), and you have been my favorite golfer since then.
Looking forward to watching you play in 2008. You are the best looking guy on the PGA tour.

  19. Hi Fred,

Have you ever tried Prolotherapy (rejenerative therepy), for your back.

I had to give up playing competitive tennis about 13 years ago, because of my back problems (I am 48 years old).

I went to Dr. Korby DO, DC., at the Spinal & Orthopaedic Medicine Associates, in Columbus, Ohio, after researching this therepy.

Bode Miller (the olympic skier) and other olympic athletes have had it done, on their knees, and C. Everett Koop (former surgeon general of the US) has had it done and endorses it.

My sacroiliac joint has stabilized and my lower back is 90% better and I am able to start playing tennis again.

This is a long lasting cure! Not just some thing to get you by.

Dr. Gordon J. Korby DO, DC. (614) 486-7171

Good Luck, If you would like any more information from me, email me.

  20. Freddie,
I once suffered severe back spasms every year for many years, until I started taking MOMENTUM
(magnesium salicylate tetrahydrate) whenever I felt
back pain/stiffness coming on. MOMENTUM doesn’t blow me away like Flexeril did. Just take it with milk, as you would with aspirin. Hopefully your good Doctor Tom Boer will approve this advice. I want to be cheering for you for years to come on the senior tour.

  21. Hi Freddie, I don’t have a recommendation for a bad back. As described by many of the previous fans, I too have a bad back. What male golfer in the world has not? It is only by definition, how bad is it?
My post is one that is strange. I have always admired your dress, that includes your “Caddilac” shirts. I would be thrilled to own one of those shirts, (more over if you had played in it) and would pay for the shipping and whatever other costs might be involved. I told you is was a strange request, but can you imagine what an impact it would be for me to show up a our local course wearing that shirt? Think about it? Luvu

  22. Dear Fred,

I am writing this in hopes that this will help out your back. My name is Tom Pietrzak, one of many of your fans. I really enjoy watching you play.

I fell this past year at work (a Municipal Golf course). I had to have two rods put in my back. While I was in physical therapy they tried a new type of taping my back. It is a Japanese technique of taping called Kinesio Tex. They use it to relieve pain through out the body even migraines. The tape will last 3-4 days before I have to change. But it has made a big difference in my back pain.

If you go on the internet their site is http://www.KinseoTex.com. I hope you can find a therapist that knows how to use this method of pain relief.

We wish you well in your recovery, and hope this can also help you.

  23. My husband and I have been avid Freddie Couples fans for many many years. We are his best Senior fans. We cant wait to see him play this week.

  24. About your back. I have had similar issues with my back. Couldn’t fly because of the long sitting times in one position. It was very painfull to play and I almost gave up golf when my handicap went to 13-14

My doctor sent me to a specialist, who simply said. “let’s try a simple approach first, lots of stretching and go buy a rocking chair. You will stay loose and the rocker will let you do thousands of reps a day on the back and leg muscles”

Mirable dictu. Very little pain playing golf and I got my handicap down to 6+ at one time. Now is 8 Not bad for 68 years. The sitting in one position is still an issue but that turns out to be a different problem.

    Give it a try.

    Vince

  25. Fred,

You are the only golfer I have ever actively rooted for, would love for you to have one more magic weekend at Augusta, you and Nantz, back in the cabin, just like in college.

  26. Freddie: Good to see you back on the links. Glad to
hear the Doctor got your spine back in place. I had the same problem but found a way to keep my spine
in place permanently. All you need to do is religiously
at least three time a week, lay on your stomach and do
LEG CURLES and then CRUNCHES. So far it has worked for me for the past 40 years. It keeps the muscles around the spine firm which in turn keeps the spine in place! Best of luck. Will be watching you
    at the next tournament.

  27. So glad to see you play at The Bob Hope Classic this last month in the Desert! My husband was a “true” sport walking the course for me just to see you play, like every year when we can make it!

I was the girl always saying” Yea Fred! ” near the ropes and my hubby cheered you on! Have had the pleasure of meeting you in 2005 or 06 and will always be your number one fan!

    Keep up the good work!!

    CYNTHIA Z

P.S. HOPE YOU READ YOUR EMAILS….

  28. Dear Mr. Couples:

My Dad, Bob was one of your biggest fans until his recent death of cancer on Dec.18th. He always loved your laid back swing and empathized with you over your many back problems.

My Dad turned 80 Dec.3rd, had his surgery Dec.4th and was gone 2 weeks later., a week before Christmas.

I would like you to know we celebrated his 80th at his home looking out onto the golf course where he lived . One of the many gifts he received was a sweatshirt with the following written on it “President of the Freddy Couples Fan Club”.

On Dec.19th, my son (who’s 18) and I adopted a kitten from our local shelter. Ryan was trying to come up with a name for this cute little grey and white tabby kitten. It was a gift from my Dad for Christmas. It has been a huge source of comfort for my son as he grieves his “Gramps”. As we were driving home with this “male” kitten (which was supposed to be a female) I asked him if he had come up with a name. He replied, with tears in his eyes from the back seat, Freddy Couples, after Gramps’ favorite golfer.

I have to tell you that “the other Freddy Couples” has brought so much pleasure and comfort to my son these last 7 weeks. My Dad would have loved the choice of name for the kitten and everytime people ask his name, most people (here in Brampton, Ontario, Canada) know exactly who Freddy Couples is, including the vet. He has my Dad’s mischievous glint in his eye, lots of energy, as my Dad did.

My Dad played golf every morning at 6:30 am with his foursome to avoid the sun. He had his last game of golf in late October and was thrilled. He shot 2 holes in one and shot under his age (79 at the time) many, many times. He followed your career (it was a 2nd “job” for him in his retirement-he was a phys ed. teacher and in great shape before he passed away.

Mr. Couples, you brought so much joy to my Dad I can’t begin to tell you.

My family and I hope your back is holding up and we wish you such good luck now that you are back on the PGA tour. IF you ever make it to Canada for a Skins game or any tournaments, one of us will definitely try and come out to watch you for our Dad’s sake.

Thanks for all the wonderful memories and for being a true gentleman on the tour.

    Lynn

  29. Fred;
Big fan for years! I also play some golf when I can; but I’m not near as good as you are. BTW, they say everyone has a “double” in this world, and I believe I’m yours! I’ll send a photo if you send us a link. Good looking, just like you! If you’re ever in the Branson, MO area, I’d like to meet you. (It would be like looking in a mirror…) Thanks, and send us a link so we can upload you a photo!

  30. I know it’s a long way off Fred but can’t wait to see you back in the England at the British Open in July. Royal Birkdale should be your type of course. All the best, Darren.

  32. What a pleasure it was to have walked into a store in Rancho Mirage and there you were Fred. I was awe struck to say the least. It was such a great moment!!
My only regret is that I did not get an autograph from you. Just seeing you in person was more than I ever could imagine. Thank you for the few moments of your time.

    All the best.

  33. Fred,

I have suffered from a bad back for years but I now manage my back and golf game much better. The former assistant pro at my country club, (Randy Friedman) has become a hypnotist specializing in golf. She has recently worked with Kevin Na and Jim McLean. I think she can do wonders for relaxing your mind and back and get you back into the winners circle where you belong.

    My best,

  38. Mr Couples I have your 1970 Mustang Mach 1 that you use to own. It has been restored if you would like to see it. I also have it for sale.

  39. Dear Mr. Couples,

I’ve held the position of Golf Director for the City of Seattle the past 5 years and never tire of hearing of your days at Jefferson Park Golf Course. As a junior golfer and summer regular at the course coming up through the ranks of amatuer golf here in the great state of Washington you left quite an impression on a number of people on Beacon Hill.

I wanted to tell you how much it means to golfers of “all” ages here in Seattle for the many times you graciously mention on air of friends and memories made growing up here and developing your golfing skills here in Seattle. I’m certain we haven’t heard but the half of it…………………. if that. :)

You’re a credit to the great game we all as avid amatuer golfers and professional golf fans know and love. You’re a terrific ambassador to golf born of good fortune to have grown up so close to the now almost 100 year old Thomas Bendelow classic golf course and jewel we all call “The Jeff”. I think you’d be very pleased to see the recently remodled driving range, the new short game practice facility north of the short 9 and a restoration of the sand bunkers on the 18 hole course currently underway.

I wish nothing but continued success to you and your game as we all approach that magical time of year that everyone in the world of golf marks each year as a new beginning and another season of hope. As rank amatuers on the links we can only dream of the day that our drives will all fly true and our putts will never die short of the jar on line and dead center.

Give ‘em heck at the Master’s Freddie. :) It would be a thrill to see you slipping on the Green Jacket again.

    Sincerely,

    Andy Soden

  40. Thanks for the 23 …….

  41. To Lynn Berry……….I know this is not a Fred Couples post, but on behalf of the many Fred Couples fans, please accept our condolences on your father’s passing. He must have been a wonderful person. Isn’t it truly amazing that someone like Fed Couple’s, any many other wonderful “stars,” can have such a positive impact in our lives? Thank you Fred Couples for being that kind of person. Lynn, I hope you and your family are doing well. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and thank you so much for sharing that wonderful story! Danny
