“That is not what the game of golf is about, it’s not what people want to go out and do and play every weekend.”
Golf course architect Graham Marsh recently opened a new course in Australia and gave his thoughts on what some of the problems with the game is as related to design.
“There are probably more golf courses closed here in the United States last year than were actually opened. And the reason is we are pitching golf [...]

The cost of the long ball
Jeff Bass, the head professional at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, penned an interesting piece on what technology has cost the game of golf.
Oh but what might have been had earlier generations had the foresight to see the dark side of distance in the modern game. Not as it applies to scoring, [...]

Interesting course search tool
Oobgolf.com has a really neat course search tool. The only problem I see is that, at least in my neck of the woods, it’s missing a few courses and a few courses aren’t in their right location. However, as it’s updated, the tool could prove to be fairly useful.

“The golf course design business right now is a little more of a struggle.”
As with things are going right now in the real estate economy, only two new courses will open in Massachusetts this year. This article contains a number of updates on New England based architects Mark Mungeam (who made the statement in the headline) and Brian Silva.

In time for the greatest spectacle in… golfing?
Nothing new to report on the golf course that features four holes inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but USAToday’s Larry Olmsted blogs on the Brickyard Crossing. The Brickyard is hardly the greatest spectacle in golfing, but I felt it necessary to use the Indy 500’s tag line in commemoration of my home state’s biggest event.
It [...]

Country Club of the South sues itself
Well, not exactly - but sort of. The Country Club of the South is a very exclusive, high-end subdivision in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta. Home of singers, athletes and other well-to-do folks, the subdivision is also the location of a Jack Nicklaus golf course bearing the name, you guessed it, Country Club of the [...]

Bomb and Gouge being Bomb and Gouge
Bomb and Gouge, the blog of the equipment editors at Golf Digest’s website, are an entertaining duo. They, along with the equipment manufactures, are almost the only ones on the planet who don’t see the increasing problems that technology is creating in the game. Recently, they go after Jack Nicklaus in a cleverly titled “Jack [...]
