Whistling Straits to get interstate ramp

For those who have made the trek to Whistling Straits, the road less traveled is the route. Not exactly the easiest place to get to, even when 45,000 other folks are headed to the same place. The Wisconsin DOT is looking at putting an interstate ramp off I-43 to serve the golf course and it’s upcoming tournaments.

Tentative plans for the new access point call for only a northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp, since most tournament traffic comes from the south, Berg said. Under that plan, attendees coming from the north would use existing routes.

The ramps — which could go in at Rowe Road or county highways MM or FF — would likely be opened only for events and emergency vehicles, said Capt. Cory Roeseler of the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department.

“It would be a great tool for the fire department and emergency response vehicles,” he said. “Right now the access for the Haven Fire Department, especially to the interstate, is very limited.”
