Turning Stone makes changes for the pros
Another relatively new course has gone under the knife to deal with the distance the pros are hitting the golf ball - Atunyote Golf Club. Home to the PGA Tour’s Turning Stone Resort Championship, the golf course was designed by Tom Fazio.
“The changes were made to toughen up the course for the pros,” Falvo said. “When the course was designed, some PGA players could carry the ball around 285 (yards). Now many players are hitting it 300 or more. So, we tried to bring the bunkers more in play by moving certain tees back … so it would play the way it was designed.
The course was lengthened by 160 yards, has narrowed fairways and widened water hazards in an effort to combat the low scoring that has taken place at the course in the past.
