New Hurdzan course opens in New York

Recent Donald Ross award winner Michael Hurdzan opened a new course in Buffalo, New York.

If Cheektowaga had hired him in 2000 to design its course, it’s certain his fee would have been triple the original cost, or more. So bravo to the slow wheels of government. Cheektowaga finally has its golf course, and it is a very impressive addition to Western New York’s publiccourse lineup. The 198-acre course is owned by the town but it was leased for 30 years to developer Sam Tadio. His company, Garrett LLC, reports it spent about $10 million on construction.

Well, I wouldn’t exactly thank government for delaying a golf course that has been under design since 1990 for 17 years.
