“I think architecture has changed the way we play the game.”

“Or is it the way we play the game that’s changed the architecture? It’s like the chicken or the egg.”

This quote from Jim Furyk came during his discussion on course management prior to the Colonial this week.  It’s an interesting quote coming from a PGA Tour player. It’s too bad we didn’t get more of what he was talking about - and some examples of where this is true.

The way the pros play the game has meant that many older courses have had to change to keep up with the technology - most of the time through additional length to the course.

I don’t think architecture has changed the way pros play the game, but certainly the way the pros play the game has changed the architecture. That’s been true probably since courses were built to test professionals.
